What is the NIRI?

The purpose of NIRI is to support academic researchers who are dedicated to studying Alzheimer’s in populations that are underrepresented, or not represented at all, in traditional scientific research. These populations, such as women and people of color, are also at greater risk for cognitive decline which underscores the need for more diversity in research.

Through NIRI, Neurotrack will provide its battery of digital cognitive assessments, free of charge, to five researchers whose projects are focused on studying underrepresented populations.

With NIRI, we hope to make cognitive assessment more accessible and efficient for academic researchers to achieve their research objectives.

Please note that this is NOT a funding opportunity. The awardees will be provided free access to the Neurotrack battery of digital cognitive assessments for the extent of their research project.

Why are we launching the Inclusivity Research Initiative?

A common problem that exists in scientific studies is the lack of diversity among the populations being studied. This typically results in an underrepresentation of females and people of color in clinical trials, particularly when it comes Alzheimer's research. This can distort the validity of clinical conclusions, as females and people of color are often disproportionately at risk for developing neurogenic disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.

For example, females represent more than two-thirds of Alzheimer’s disease patients in the US, and similar overrepresentation exists with Black and Latino populations. Clinical research for Alzheimer’s should account for those populations in order to achieve meaningful outcomes.

Through Neurotrack's Inclusivity Research Initiative, we hope to enable research efforts to diversify Alzheimer's research and make it more inclusive and representative of all populations.

Things to know before applying

What should I expect after I apply?

Neurotrack’s Clinical Team will review applications throughout the open application period. If your project is chosen, you will receive an email with more details. Due to the high number of expected applicants, it is unlikely we will be able to provide feedback to applicants we do not select.

What role does Neurotrack play in this research process?

Neurotrack has a Clinical team available to help support your project at all levels. After application acceptance, we can help troubleshoot detailed design questions, develop the proper cognitive test battery, etc.

Given our experience with including our technology in scientific publications, we are also available to help with the process of developing IRB language and assisting with the final publications, as needed.

Why does Neurotrack want me to share the de-identified research data?

While we are well validated from a scientific perspective, Neurotrack is always working on expanding and improving our product offerings. These types of data help us further understand our products and how to best offer them to future opportunities.

Will Neurotrack influence the outcome data or impair my ability to publish the data from this project.

Absolutely not. Once awarded, the project is yours to run independently and without outside influence. Neurotrack’s team is simply here to provide support, as needed.

Why does the Apply Now link lead me to a SurveyMonkey site?

Neurotrack uses SurveyMonkey as a tool for data collection. All applications are securely transmitted through SurveyMonkey to Neurotrack. Only the members of Neurotrack’s Clinical Team will be able to see the information in your application.
